to Win

Read-to-Win is a reading readiness program for children 18 months to 5 years old, held in the Sherman Public Library Community Room.  Join us from 10am to 11am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Enjoy stories, songs and more!

Summer Reading registration begins June 1st.  Children from birth to 18 can participate.

Teens ages 12 and up can join the Summer Teen Volunteer Program.

Readers Forum

 

Meets on the third Monday of each month at 1:30pm in the Rare Books Room of the Sherman Public Library. The titles of the books to be discussed are posted by the check out desk. See the Friends of the Sherman Public Library Page for more information on this and other reading groups.

Spring Book Sale 2010

The annual Spring Book Sale was held on Saturday, April 24th in conjunction with the Earth Festival in downtown Sherman.  Profits from the Book Sales help fund adult programming and children's programs such as Authorfest, Summer Reading, and Monday Madness, just to name a few.  Buying used books at great prices helps support your library!

The Fall Book Sale will be in September in conjunction with the Arts Festival in downtown Sherman.  Mark your calendar.  Members of the Friends of the Sherman Public Library enjoy early shopping, Friday.   You may drop off membership at the Library or pay the day of the sale.  Saturday it is open to the public.  For more information about the Friends and how to join visit the Friends of the Sherman Public Library page.  We are now accepting donations for the September Book Sale.

TexShare Databases can be accessed at home for Library cardholders.  Just ask and we will give you the password to sign it to TexShare.

Book Reviews

Book Review Programs begin at 11:45am in the Hope Waller Community Room of the Sherman Public Library.  A light lunch will be served prior to each program. There is no charge for these programs, but donations are welcome.  The following dates have been reserved for book reviews: 

Reviews take place the first Wednesday of the month in October, November, December, March, April, and May.

Friends of the Library    Open Meeting

NEWS RELEASE

The annual meeting of the Friends of the Sherman Public Library Board will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, in the Hope Waller Community Room of the library.

 

Current Board president, Jaquita Albin, will preside over the meeting.  It will include a year-end financial report and election of officers and additional board members who will serve.

 

Committee reports will be heard on efforts made during the past year to create public support for library programs, increase community awareness of those programs, and to sponsor programs adding to the cultural life of the community.  Projects during the 2009-2010 year have included two used book sales and six book review luncheons.  In addition, Friends has sponsored programs and book rewards for Summer Reading, the Trick-or-Treat Village and Authorfest, featuring children’s author Mary Downing Hahn.

 

Any individual or business interested in promoting the library is eligible to become a member of the Friends of the Sherman Public Library.  Yearly dues are $15 for individuals, and range upward for families and various levels of patrons.  Each adult member of the organization may vote at the annual meeting and may serve, if elected, on the board of directors.

....You can donate funds for new children's books to the Sherman Public Library on your water bill? Check it out!  A new donation box has been added to the City of Sherman water bill. Please consider donating $1.00 a month towards new materials for our youngsters.
